Diana wants to write the social media post for me, but I insist on doing it myself, along with writing the rebuttal to Cathyâs Tweets and posts. Iâm using Instagram only for my post and posting some of the photos Sarai had up in her room, plus one of the selfies I took of us with her breakfast plate this morning and one of the pics someone else posted on social media.
Hey, everyone! I know thereâs been a lot going on with me the last couple of weeks in the media and fan groups, and most of it hasnât been hockey related. I was going to let it all play out without making a statement because while I love my fans, my private life is something Iâve guarded for a long time. But, after posts and articles that came out today, I need to speak out.
I met Sarai Redlin when she was born. Literally. Our parents were best friends and we lived next door to each other. Iâm not going to pretend I remember meeting her at the hospital when I was oneâalthough Iâve seen the pics, but I can tell you Iâve never forgotten her since. Her brothers were my best friends, and she was my everything. She still is.
We grew up together as friends, and then we fell in love. But, I was young, stupid and naïve enough to believe sheâd be better off without me. I broke up with her and pretended I was interested in someone else. The other woman agreed to pretend with me, but now sheâs spreading falsehoods. If it was just me that was affected, Iâd laugh it off. But, I wonât allow the woman I love to be hurt by me and my actions again.
To clarify. I hadnât seen Sarai in over ten years, and did not know sheâd designed the training facility when I made my comments about it. Would I change what I said if Iâd known? No, because I still believe we donât need luxury to do our jobs effectively. Would I have gone directly to her with my concerns? Also, no. As I said, we hadnât seen it each other in a very long time and did not part on good terms. I probably wouldâve made sure not to say my comments in front of anyone I didnât know well, but I shouldâve done that anyway.
Sarai and I were able to talk and compromise, and itâs already been publicly released that the facility will open on time with the changes we agreed to. The building itself is spectacular. I never once had a problem with the design itself, and I cannot wait to see what she designs next.
As for personally, well youâve seen me holding her hand and smiling at her in the pics released today. You can also look at the pictures here, and see us with the breakfast I made for her this morning, and infer from that what you will. Iâm also letting you see pictures from our past together.
